Irish residence permit renewals taking more than 17 weeks in Dublin

Status: Service notice

Immigration Service Delivery reported on 13 July 2026 that renewing an Irish Residence Permit through the Burgh Quay registration office in Dublin was taking more than 17 weeks for some categories, with up to two further weeks for the new card. A temporary summer travel concession ran from 13 July to 31 August 2026 and has ended.

What changed

  • ISD reported IRP renewal processing times of more than 17 weeks for some categories at the Burgh Quay office in Dublin.
  • After a renewal is completed, the new IRP card may take up to two further weeks to arrive.
  • A Travel Confirmation Notice let eligible residents travel on a recently expired IRP card between 13 July and 31 August 2026, if a renewal was lodged before expiry. That concession has ended.

What students should do

  1. Submit your renewal well before your IRP card expires.
