Finding the awards you are actually competitive for, and meeting their deadlines — which are usually earlier than you expect.
Most scholarship money that students from Nepal successfully win is not the famous fully funded award. It is a university merit scholarship applied automatically at offer, a faculty award that fewer applicants find, or — at graduate level in the USA — a departmental assistantship that covers tuition and pays a stipend.
The competitive government awards are real and worth pursuing if you are genuinely strong: Chevening and Commonwealth for the UK, Fulbright for the USA, Australia Awards, Government of Ireland scholarships, New Zealand Scholarships. They have fixed annual windows, demanding applications, and they are applied for directly rather than through an agent.
The most common failure is timing. Scholarship deadlines frequently precede admission deadlines, and an application that arrives after the round has closed is simply not read. We work the calendar backwards from the award deadlines, not the course start date.
